Jenny Hval – The Great Undressing

The new video for Jenny Hval‘s song The Great Undressing, from her latest album Blood Bitch, could almost be a promotional video for naturism.

Directed by Marie Kristiansen this, it has to be said, quite literal take on the title of the track features Norwegian actor Marte Germaine Christensen as a woman going about her average day at home, at work, at the gym and hanging out with friends.

She just happens to not be wearing any clothes.

She’s perfectly at ease in her own body, and none of the people she encounters are fazed in any way.

If only the real world were something like this…

The Gooch Palms – Houston We Have a Problem

The Gooch Palms are Leroy Macqueen (who usually performs naked) and his partner Kat Friend from Newcastle, New South Wales, where perhaps ironically they run a second-hand clothing store. Here they are performing Houston We Have A Problem at The Tote Hotel in Collingwood:

Ejecta – Eleanor Lye

Ejecta is singer Leanne Macomber, formerly of Neon Indian, and Joel Ford, of Ford & Lopatin. Their debut album Dominae was released in 2013. Ejecta is also a character, played by Macomber, who is always portrayed nude. In an interview for Polari Magazine she explained why:

Ejecta is a mysterious creature. She finds herself on earth after being reborn, or reanimated, or perhaps as a ghost who has just passed over into the next realm. Maybe even an alien. She is always depicted nude to allude to this displacement. Naked, she bears no signs of her culture or class. She is a timeless every woman in this sense

The Shoe – Dead Rabbit Hopes

Actress Jena Malone (Donnie Darko, Into The Wild, Sucker Punch, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire) records in a duo called The Shoe with Lem Jay Ignacio. For their new song, Dead Rabbit Hopes, director Alia Penner brought to life a vision of the human body’s beauty as explained by Malone:

I wanted to talk about a woman’s beauty and sexuality in a way that felt very different from our highly manipulated and sexualized world. I actually wanted to desexualize my own naked body while upholding its own perfect eternal grace. I didn’t want it to be about lingerie or booty shorts. I wanted it to be about the work of art that you are born with.
